The Competition Heats Up

Claim fame as you excavate the ancient city of Akrotiri!

Your decision to excavate the ancient city of Akrotiri has borne fruit. The temples you’ve discovered during your expeditions in the Aegean have increased your standing among your peers and made you a person of renown. But they’ve also drawn the attention of staunch competition. Rival expeditions launch daily… which means resources will grow even more scarce and the race to discover temples even more heated. Only a cunning explorer who manages resources shrewdly while manipulating the board layout in their favor will gain enough fame to claim victory in Akrotiri.

Higher Stakes in the Aegean

Since Akrotiri debuted in 2014, designers Jay Cormier and Sen-Foong Lim have received lots of feedback from the game’s many devoted fans. Hardly content to rest on their laurels, Jay and Sen-Foong tested various minor improvements they wanted to make to their design. When it became time for a reprint, they took the opportunity to incorporate some adjustments into a revised edition.

In addition to an updated rulebook, point values on a few of Akrotiri’s goal cards are adjusted for balance purposes. For example, for each temple a player has on an island with at least three different Terrain icons, the card’s owner gains three points (previously six points). Also, for each temple a player has on an island with no Terrain icons, the card’s owner gains four points (previously three points). Although slightly different, the goal cards remain secret, keeping everyone guessing about who could be in the lead at any moment.

Begin Your Voyage

Building on the sense of adventure established by its original release in 2014, the revised edition of Akrotiri increases the stakes even further. Akrotiri was originally conceived as a multiplayer system, but was eventually refined to become the strategic 2-player affair it is known as today. Seizing upon the opportunity presented by this revised edition, “multiplayer Akrotiri” is now a reality. Up to four players can join in the hunt for legendary temples with two copies of the game.

To best accommodate more players, the revised edition contains player components in new colors that differentiate themselves from those found in previous printings. By combining all components from one copy of Akrotiri with the drachmas from another, these players will be ready to explore the Aegean in search of fame. With this much competition, players will have less time to excavate, the islands will be more crowded, resources will be scarcer (but more valuable), and the glory of finding temples becomes that much more important. For the complete multiplayer rules as well as a few clarifications for owners of the original edition, download the Akrotiri FAQ.

You’ve collected your maps and funded your expeditions, but more explorers are setting sail than ever before. The race is on to see who can discover the legendary temples first. The winner will earn themselves a place in history!

The revised edition of Akrotiri will be available in summer 2017.
