Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 Awarded the Sonderpreis

Shining a spotlight on legacy games

Today the jury for the coveted Spiel des Jahres award has announced their nominations! We are honored that Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 by Matt Leacock and Rob Daviau has received a special award known as the Sonderpreis.

Tom Felber, the Chairman of the Spiel des Jahres jury, notes that for the first time since 2010, the jury has chosen to bestow this special award. The original base game of Pandemic was nominated for the Spiel des Jahres in 2009, and Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 was nominated for the Kennerspiel des Jahres in 2016. Felber explains that Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 takes "the already ingenious gameplay" and combines it with "an interesting background story." Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 will be the title that "all future legacy games will have to be measured" against.

Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 continues the story of Season 1. 71 years after the apocalyptic outbreak of the plague, small groups of survivors have struggled to keep the world alive. A group of heroes must emerge to lead the world through this crisis.

You and your team must reestablish supply lines and get the world back on its feet. Played in 12-24 sessions, your gameplay and the board will be affected by your decisions. Unlock new components, make new discoveries about your world, and stumble upon secrets that could alter the course of history.

Pandemic Legacy: Season 2 takes players on a dramatic journey of survival with players immersed in a compelling narrative that leads you through a year in the Pandemic world. As the months pass with each gaming session, you must adapt to each new challenge if you have any hope of saving the world.

You are the world’s last hope. Can you save humanity?
